Easter table

We had some friends over for a casual Easter supper over the weekend. We said it would be casual so I promised myself not to go overboard...but I couldn't help going to a teensy little bit of effort. Easter decorations are so cute and whimsical after all.

I started preparing in the afternoon...

I took the opportunity to bring out the silver, inherited from one of my Grandmas. This year was the first that I was also able to use these gorgeous eggs that Mum brought back from a recent trip to Canada, purchased from Pottery Barn.

With the table set and the food ready, we were able to enjoy dinner under the fairy lights.

The wooden bunny was a present from Mum this year, from the Villeroy & Boch range for Easter 2011.

Mr found me this bird's nest whilst out working one night.

Off to market...

An overcast and cloudy day today provided good enough reason to hop on the machine and tick some more projects off the list. I have seen so many market tote projects in blog land and they are something I have always wanted to have a go at.

First step was to cut a piece of fabric for the main case. I used one long piece that I would only have to sew up the sides. I also chose a piece of coordinating material for a decorative trim.

I fixed the trim first and used a zigzag stitch as a cute feature.

I cut long strips for the handles...

...and attached them to each side.

Every market bag needs a little dressing up before leaving the house...

And here she is, ready to step out!

I really enjoyed creating this little gem as it was so easy and a great way to use up some excess pieces of material - not to mention great for the environment. I had a friend in mind whilst making this bag who loves to scout out local markets and I can't wait to pass it on to a good home. I'm now busting to make some more!

Happy shopping xx

Easter spoilings!

One thing about my job, is that you certainly get spoiled come Easter and Christmas time. This year I was overwhelmed by all of my lovely gifts, but especially those that weren't chocolate and eggs - those that were handpicked with thought and love.

One was this gorgeous paperweight...

It shows a different image from each angle and looks perfect on top of some old books my Mum and Dad kept from their younger days which I now own. The weight came wrapped up in this handmade gift bag. I thought it was worth sharing as it's such an easy and pretty project to dress up an ordinary brown bag.

I was also given this fresh bunch of oriental lilies. Their frangrance can be detected from every room in the entire house. They are one of my favourite flowers.

I also spoiled myself on Saturday with a trip to Bed Bath and Table at Robina Town Centre. They are hands down unbeatable for Easter trimmings. I picked up these adorable little bunnies and birdhouse.

Mmmm, are they the hot cross buns I can smell in the oven? Better go and check on them! Have a happy lead up to Easter!

The Butterfly Tree

I love fresh Easter mornings...especially when I am getting up early to check out the Butterfly Tree markets with Mum at the Gold Coast Arts Centre. We picked up some gorgeous handmade goodies for my beautiful nephew and I came across some little gems for myself...

My favourite store today was Rubyju. Some very talented ladies...who I will be contacting for my next party! I picked up some vintage floral wrap from them and these to-die-for paper plates.

I know what you're thinking...they don't look like paper??? Well, they are! And there are three designs in a pack of twelve for $7.95!!! All I need to do now is plan a ladies lunch or tea to put them to good use...

Thanks for a great morning Butterfly Tree. I will certainly be catching you next time!

Bienvenue

I have always been a white on white girl when it comes to decorating the house, however, recently I have embraced little splashes of colour. In the guest room, I have added mostly reds with a hint of blue. The comforter on the end of the bed I picked up for a steal at Priscilla's Corner during one of her famous clearout sales. The white whicker bedhead is mine from my childhood bedroom in Sydney. I salvaged it from Mum's garage!

And yes, I have made MORE cushions. I found the fabric for these bolsters and I just couldn't resist including them in the new colour scheme. I patched the two fabrics together down the centre and finished the sides off with a white pom pom trim.

This gorgeous little heart feature pillow is from my dear friend Sarsha. A flight attended, she picked this up for me on a trip to Belgium in the most divine shop Comptoir de Famille. She hadn't seen the new room yet, so I decided that she must be slightly psychic as it matches perfectly!

Sarsha also gave me this petite little sign, also from Comptoir de Famille, that provides a warm 'Bienvenue' for our guests.

The perfect piece

Whilst dreaming over pretty images, I stumbled upon this gorgeous daybed and union jack story. I have been searching for a piece of art that would suit a large wall space in the living area for some time now...however, this union jack fabric hanging is perfect! And you guessed it, next on my project list!

Have a relaxing and restful Saturday...perhaps on your very own daybed...
